Anthony Chereso is Chief Executive Officer and President of The Inland Real Estate Companies, LLC, which is part of The Inland Real Estate Group of Companies, Inc.  (“Inland”).  Inland is one of the nation’s largest commercial real estate, finance, and alternative investment groups.  Since inception, Inland has closed more than $80 billion in financial and diversified commercial real estate transactions, raising more than $30 billion in capital, and currently manages a diverse real estate portfolio of approximately $16 billion across 42 states.

Mr. Chereso joined Inland in July 2022 as Chief Financial Officer.  In this capacity, he oversaw the acquisition of Inland’s majority interest in Devon Self Storage Holdings, one of the largest privately owned national self-storage operators and development companies with more than $2 billion in assets. The acquisition also included Powell Insurance Services.

Prior to joining Inland, Mr. Chereso worked as President and Chief Executive Officer of the Institute for Portfolio Alternatives (“IPA”), the foremost alternative investment trade association, where he was the leading voice for critical legislative and regulatory issues with an unwavering commitment for the advancement of the alternative investment industry.  Under his leadership, the IPA was intimately involved in the drafting of the Treasury rules for Qualified Opportunity Zones and invited to The White House when signed into law.  Previously, he co-founded and served as President and Chief Executive Officer of FactRight, a leading third-party independent securities due diligence and research firm and has held roles in capital markets at various real estate investment companies. Additionally, he worked in corporate finance, tax, and audit with Verizon Communications (formerly GTE) for nearly 20 years. 

Mr. Chereso has over 30 years of experience in retail investment, underwriting, finance, tax, audit, commercial real estate, due diligence, capital markets and the alternative investment industry. Mr. Chereso serves on The Board of Directors for organizations whose missions align with his passions including: The Real Estate Roundtable; NAREIT Public Non-Listed REIT Council, Better Government Association of Chicago and the 100 Club of Illinois serving first responders killed in the line of duty.  He is a member of the Wheaton Lions Club, Conservation Foundation, and supports Wellness House assisting those affected by cancer.

As an industry leader, Mr. Chereso is an active supporter of many associations including the United States Chamber of Commerce, National Association of REALTORS, NAREIT, and the IPA.

Mr. Chereso is a graduate of the DePaul University School of Business and was recognized as a distinguished instructor for the Institute of Internal Auditors.

He is married and a proud father of five children and grandfather of three grandchildren. In his free time, he enjoys quiet family time, golfing, biking, skiing and gardening.
